Ransomware is the largest global cyber threat, and the illicit market continues to grow, building on advancements in technology. The threat of ransomware affects everyone, from large corporations to individuals and the need for investigating these crimes grows with the illicit marketplace for ransomware. Our research team has collected ransomware ads on various darknet markets to create an extensive database of available products. This database allows us to better understand this illicit online supply chain. With the largest market database, we provide a nuance depiction of the threat landscape documenting the type, value, and availability of ransomware.
Informed by our ransomware threat assessment, we have expanded our research collection to include malware and hacking services on the darknet. Our database has shown significant overlap between the three illicit markets, and further research affords us the opportunity to better understand how vast the markets of these illicit goods are.
